Andrea Rost was honored with the Bartók-Pászthory award

In 2021, the Bartók-Pászthory Award Board of Trustees presented the Bartók-Pászthory Award to opera singer Andrea Rost, the teacher of our master course, and the awarding ceremony was held online, according to tradition, on Bartók’s birthday.

In his tribute to Andrea Rost, Ádám Medveczky recalls the opera singer’s admission to the Academy of Music: “a lovely young lady appeared, stopped on the stage and opened a book. Of course, we immediately guessed that she would sing Norina’s aria, since it begins with the reading of a romantic novel. As soon as he opened his lips to a song, we forgot about the book, about everything. I was immersed in the color of his voice, the richness of his expression.” As he adds, Andrea Rost’s career went up with stormy speed, since she made her debut as Gounod’s Juliet while she was still a student, but despite her busy schedule, she conscientiously and prepared attended the role practice classes and did not cancel the lesson, but performed. “Professional perfection and poetry are the cornerstones of their success. Bel canto is his mother tongue, but he has proven in his concerts that he can produce great music in any style. He sings songs beautifully and sometimes operettas with bewitching kindness,” stressed Ádám Medveczky.

Congratulation!

About the Bartók-Pászthory award

The award was founded by the pianist-composer’s widow, Ditta Pásztory, in her will, and every year since 1984 it has been awarded to a Hungarian native speaker and composer who has performed outstanding activities. It is awarded to those who, with their work, have significantly contributed to the development of domestic musical life and to the preservation of Bartók’s spirit.
